Being obese or overweight puts you at a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, kidney disease, and even blindness. But apart from physical exercise, there are other simpler steps you can take to lose weight. Here are the 5 easy steps to lose weight without exercise: Slow Down and Munch Your Food Properly When you chew your food properly it makes you eat more slowly. A 2020 article on Healthline stated according to a study that chewing your food up to 32 times leads to eating less portions, decreased consumption and increased fullness. That fullness sends a signal to your brain that you have had enough and therefore can stop eating. However, when you eat faster there isn’t enough time for the brain to process whether you’re full or not. You’re therefore likely to eat more portions. Eat a Lot of Protein-Rich Foods Proteins ...

Jowie: The Road to Damascus

Human perspective is limited and shut out from the workings of God!

Joseph Irungu famously known as “Jowie” is still facing a murder case after the tragic death of Monica Kimani in 2018 at an apartment in Kilimani.

Jowie had spent some time in remand but was recently released on a Sh2 million bail.

The flamboyant dresser and lover of luxurious living has been described by no less than a judge of the High Court as a male version of a “slay-queen.”

Legal matters aside, Jowie is becoming sort of an inspiration, at least as far as turning on a new leaf is concerned!

This article does not in any way dispute that there was a tragic murder neither does it attribute guilt or innocence to the suspect.

However, sometimes life teaches us hard lessons. Lessons that can make or break us.

And the one thing that stands out between those who overcome and those who don’t is allowing yourself a second chance.

Jowie is reconciling with himself even after spending almost two years in remand. He is gaining a new perspective; that life goes on every day, in or out of prison.

The sooner you begin to deal with yourself the better!

For Jowie it seems, this trying moment has provided a new impetus for him to overcome this dark cloud and start afresh.

Jowie has just released a new gospel single, “Nishikilie” meaning hold on to me.

And God is faithful. The scripture records thus, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. – 2 Peter 3:9

For the family of the late Monica and many of us, Jowie’s actions may seem hypocritical and pretentious.

But regardless of what we may think of him, life has to go on and it will go on even if he was to be sentenced to jail for the murder.

But what is remarkable is the ability of any human being to rise above adversity having learnt lessons and pick up the pieces.

Too many times we often beat ourselves up all the more after a crisis. This only helps to damage and crush our self-esteem.

Crisis time is not a time for self-loathing and sinking into guilty. It’s a moment of silent sobriety and reflection.

One must not have the mind-set of trying to undo or reset the clock on what has happened. That is always a recipe for self-pity and anger!

However, sitting down with oneself and pondering what next and dealing with matters progressively is a better way of dealing with issues.

For Jowie, it’s taken cooling off his heels in isolation from the public life that has led to this new perspective.

Everyone deserves another chance! That’s how come the correctional system provides opportunity for pardon.

The system is not set up to keep convicts locked up but to provide opportunity for correction.

And many of us out here might seem free but are imprisoned by guilt, condemnation, anger and other issues just because we refuse to love ourselves enough to accord ourselves another chance.

To err is human.

It first begins by accepting that you failed in a certain area and taking steps moving forward not to repeat the same.

I guess the best people who can teach us self-love are prisoners! They have experienced rejection and have come to acknowledge and deal with guilt.

On the flip-side, for some of us it will take going to prison for the gift of God to be released in full measure.

Do not be surprised if Jowie becomes the greatest Evangelist of our time for the scripture say thus, “The Stone which the builders rejected has become the Chief cornerstone” Psalm 118:22

I remember the story of the Apostle Paul who was a fervent and violent persecutor of the Church. But on his way to Damascus (Acts 9), He met with Christ in a vision and he turned to become a passionate preacher of the Gospel.

Jowie’s story teaches us that our agenda in life must never be to wish for or perpetuate the downfall of others. No matter how wicked we think they are!

It is God who has the destiny of each one of us in His hands. Yes, the law has its place and will dispense justice in its own terms.

But God uses what seems peculiar to accomplish His own purposes. The scripture records, “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty” 1 Corinthians 1:27

Today if you hear His voice, do nor harden your heart – It’s time to surrender that burden to Christ!

It’s been too heavy but there’s one who is ready to take it off your shoulders and give you rest!

His name is Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God.
